OPEN BETA Sept. 7th

Thanks to the great forum fan site of WHA and Legal Beta leakers of Massively I woke up this morning to good news and the announcement of Open Beta… though we all know that’s not the news we want –::hint hint nudge nudge::–

On some other good news Negative Burn has kicked into stage two of our pre-launch schedule. So I’m very happy to announce NB has re-opened recruitment to give the masses a chance to get into this strong guild.  Negative Burn is an Order guild I choose to join months back when the only Order guilds where dwarf RPers. We are gaming vets from damn near every MMO to date and we plan to have a very strong presence in WAR. The sheer amount of organized hardcore guilds on the destruction side drove us to the side of order because we DEMAND a challenge and an uphill battle. We will be the wall to hold back those “big name” guilds and if you want to be apart of it, apply here. (please, read up the info presented on main page, see our public forums, and introduce yourself)

After letting my brain think about the rebooting issue last night and tinkering a bit I’m proud to say all is well in the computer stability area… and my computer was working efficiently till late night on stuff.

woe is me, woe is me

over the last few days my computer has been acting up. Ever since I bought the new RAM everything is on the fritz and has been testing my patience and ability to dive deep into Advanced settings tabs and BIOS…. uhhg.  So until I can resolve the issue of my comp randomly crashing into the blue flames of computer hell WAR beta will have to wait until I can tackle this issue. On a last note, I have not checked yet to see if my motherboard can actually support 4 GiGs of ram and I hope that is not the issue

The last few days have got away from me. Like others, I too have been upgrading my system to ensure smooth play in large RvR battles. My processor and graphics card are the weakest part of my system right now but they still rank above the minimum line by a decent amount so I’ll keep those units. Up until now I was running 1.5GB RAM with windows Vista so i picked up two sticks of Super Talent 2gb 800MHz RAM putting me at a very comfortable 4Gigs.  I got home and threw off my tower door like the hulk and begun to unpacked my RAM. The heat sinks on the sticks made it a tight fit and almost impossible to install and nearly missing a component on my motherboard. I booted up Windows and checked my system specs…. RAM: 3gig…..huh? I ran Dxdiag and updated my beta account anyways. As it turns out the salesman gave me the wrong chip and I had to wait till yesterday to exchange it.

My next move was obtaining Fraps since I plan on making short movies, strats vids, Epic RvR vids, and anything of the like.  I ran an unofficial stress test on my machine. This was easy, I started by recording fraps, ran a movie, opened 6-8 web pages, ran itunes, signed into Vent, signed into msn, and did my best to bogg my system down. I’m happy to say everything ran perfectly, but not for too long.

After receiving my Beta invite via CE reserve, set up Vuze with the task of DLing the 9+ gig beta file. Vuse would end up shanking my system repeatably and displaying “the blue screen of death”  <grumble>  I spent an hour or two researching the problem and trying to correct it. AHHHRRGG! I have a good amount of patience normally, but not today!! /uninstall and downloaded Utorrent to do the job. I left this morning at 28.5% the way to WAR!

I finnaly got my Beta Invite and DLing now! Most of the guild is reporting invites as well. There is a steady buzz of preperation across the net, like runners before a marathon and hundreds of thousands of people deep. Tape your nipples down, stretch them legs, and get into your happy place because WARs Open Beta is about to begin!

Re: MBJ and his announcments

Most of us have read and memorized MBJ’s(Mythic CEO) Big Announcment from yesterday. I couldn’t help but read between the lines and put down my own observation of human pessimistic ways.

7) Regarding the NDA lift, we hope to lift the NDAnext week, one month before launch. I wish I could lift it right now but as I’ve said elsewhere, we need to take care of a three issues before the NDA is lifted. One has already been taken care of and I hope that by the end of next week, the other two will be taken care of as well. Once we lift the NDA I’ll go into more detail as to what the issues were and why I wanted to hold things up. The remaining two issues are not earth-shattering by any means but when I explain things, I hope you’ll understand why I wanted to wait another week.

First off, I’m a fanboy of the mythic team since DAoC and all the x-pacsI got to spend time playing in.(except I never forgave them adding those OP Bonedancers) MBJ has been around far longer then 10 years and regularly communicates with the communities around his games. The way he worded this point #7 about the NDA made it sound like he was typing while fitting into a flame retardant jumpsuit. “The remaining two issues are not earth-shattering“  meaning that probly when we hear that MBJ didn’t want to lift the NDA because the team has not decided on what color the top of tavern bar stools should be, the heads of sleep deprived teens will explode.  Openly ignorant comments directed right at MBJ are sure to follow. I suspect somone will even go as far as calling MJB some form of a money hungry CEO holding the NDA so the press in Closed Beta can boost WARs initial sales. Reading posts of that nature paralyze me with WAAGH!! …..ACHIEVEMENT! “you have just added your 100th name to the book of grudges! New title: The Avenger”

Please think before you press “Submit” and realize these type of responses are what turned the WoW forums into a cesspool of random asinine dialogue. I wonder, after launch just how strict WHA ruleswill be able to be enforced with WHA’s newly added moderators. Now, lets see how the NDA lift goes.

Once we got inside[the keep], I had my best moment of the day. We made short work of the NPCs on the lower level and charged up to the second floor to kill the keep master only to get blown back — I mean literally blown back — by a group of Dwarven engineers who had set up turrets and were throwing grenades. Call it a Team Fortress 2 flashback, but the realization that I had just gotten cut down by a gun turret constructed by a dwarf was easily the most surreal experience I’ve had in quite a while. Even better (or worse from our standpoint) those damned dwarves and the other Order player then proceeded to hold us at the stairwell using a combination of tanks to block and lots more grenades. All credit to whoever was playing Order last night. You held it together against a force of superior numbers and managed to drive us back. You have my respect until next time.

I have always been a fan of defending and laying traps Be it luring a group of players into an ambush, dropping AoE spells on a choke point, or running flanks. The combo of land mines, grenades, turrets, my Rifle, and my cranium are going to have a large amount of fun together.
